High 5’s BIG weekend away

On Friday 25 May, 42 children, families and volunteers from High 5 headed off for a jam-packed long weekend at PGL Osmington Bay. It gave an opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities, from dragon boating to fencing. The group had to work in a team, problem solve, persevere with challenges and step outside their comfort zone. Rather than tell you anymore ourselves, here’s what some of our families had to say:

“We all had a wonderful trip away. We don’t get to go on many holidays. The volunteers who came with us were amazing. It was great to spend time out of the club and see everyone relaxing and working together as a team. The leaders of the PGL holiday really made our day with lots of laughs and entertainment. We got to do dragon boat racing, zip wire, giant swing, quad biking, abseiling and lots more. The weather was fantastic the whole weekend which made it more enjoyable. We really liked hearing the guitar outside our chalet and the campfire sing-song and toasted marshmallows. All good fun. Thank you everyone.”

“We felt so lucky to have a family weekend away – to see the children’s faces as they had such fun doing the activities was truly magical.”

“Quad biking was my favourite – I’d never done it before!”

“It was good. Mummy even did the zip wire. I did climbing, fencing and rifle shooting.”

“After an epic journey, we arrived at the beautiful Osmington Bay camp. The children spied the zip wires, giant swings and climbing walls immediately and the excitement of all these and ‘seeing the sea’ was amazing. The activities were exciting, varied and inclusive for all. The instructors were knowledgeable, patient and very good fun. The accommodation was comfy and functional. The food was yummy with plenty of choice. And the setting was beautiful! Our LB Mencap High 5 volunteers made our holiday run smoothly with activities for the children on the journey, drinks and snacks and high spirits all the way, also sorting out any issues at the camp to make our time there enjoyable and unforgettable. Thank you, LB Mencap!”
